Documents Required

General Documents Required for All Work Permit Applications

Regardless of your visa type, the following documents must be submitted:

• Proof of fee payment (attach receipt)
• Copy of all passport pages (including front and back cover and all empty pages)
• Employment contract or job offer
• Certified translations (if documents are not in English, German, Norwegian, Swedish, or Danish)

If the job requires Danish authorisation, you must also submit:

• Danish authorisation certificate

Types of Work Permits & Additional Requirements

Fast-Track Scheme

For employees hired by Danish companies certified by SIRI. Employers handle the application process.

Additional documents required:

• Power of attorney from the applicant
• Declaration of no fines (DKK 3,000 or more) (if applying under the Supplementary Pay Limit track)
• Proof of job posting on Jobnet & EURES (if applying under the Supplementary Pay Limit track)

Pay Limit Scheme

For individuals earning a salary above the Pay Limit threshold.

Additional documents required:

• Proof of relevant education
• Company financial documentation (for newly established businesses in Denmark)

If a company is newly set up, submit:

• Business plan and economic documentation

Positive List

For workers in shortage occupations in Denmark.

Additional documents required:

• Proof of salary benefits not in the employment contract (e.g., housing allowance)
• Proof of geographical work location (if required by the Regional Labour Market Councils)

Researchers

For individuals offered a research position at a public or private institution.

Additional documents required:

• None beyond the general requirements.

Employed PhD Students

For PhD students employed by a Danish educational institution.

Additional documents required:

• Proof of PhD enrolment
• If salaried: Employment contract
• If unsalaried: Proof of financial support

Guest Researchers

For individuals invited to Denmark for research.

Additional documents required:

• Invitation letter from research facility
• Proof of completed Master’s degree
• Proof of financial support

Special Individual Qualifications

For individuals with unique skills, such as artists, athletes, or specialised chefs.

Additional documents required:

• Proof of salary benefits not in the employment contract

Service Providers

For employees of non-EU companies providing services in Denmark.

• Company documentation (to prove financial ability to pay salaries)

Herdsmen & Farm Managers

For employment in Denmark’s agricultural sector.

Additional documents required:

• Proof of salary benefits not in the employment contract

Start-Up Denmark

For entrepreneurs launching an innovative business in Denmark.

Additional documents required:

• Approval from the Danish Business Authority
• Proof of financial support
• Proof of company ownership

Trainee Work Permit

For individuals undergoing temporary training in Denmark.

• Proof of education relevant to the training
• Training programme details

Certification (Fast-Track Scheme for Companies)

For Danish companies using the Fast-Track Scheme to hire foreign employees efficiently.

ESS Scheme

For employees of the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Sweden who wish to live in Denmark.

• Swedish work permit or proof of application

Authorisation

For professionals needing Danish authorisation to work in their field.

Additional documents required:

• Danish Patient Safety Authority certificate (for healthcare professionals)

Labour Market Attachment

For individuals who previously had a Danish residence permit (e.g., through family reunification or refugee status) and now wish to work in Denmark.

• Payslips for the last two years (if paid hourly)
• Proof of any vacation leave taken in the last two years

Mobile Workplaces at Sea

For workers on drilling rigs, ships, or vessels that temporarily enter Danish territory.

• None beyond the general requirements.

Volunteer Work Permit

For individuals engaging in unpaid social or humanitarian work.

Additional documents required:

• Agreement with volunteering organisation
• Proof of financial support (if applicable)
• Health & liability insurance (for stays under three months)

Sideline Employment

For individuals who already work in Denmark and need a second job permit.

Additional documents required:

• CV (if available)

Work Permit for Accompanying Family Members

For family members of a person working in Denmark who require a work permit.

Additional documents required:

• Proof of previous employment history (if relevant to the job)
• CV (if available)

Biometric Data Requirement

• Applicants must appear in person at a Danish diplomatic mission or SIRI office for biometric recording (fingerprints & digital photo).
• If applying via a representation agreement country, applicants must submit two passport photos and complete biometric recording upon arrival in Denmark.

• Fees are non-refundable, even if the application is rejected.
• Employers must comply with Danish employment regulations, including salary and contract conditions.

Photo Specification

• Size: 35mm x 45mm
• Head Length: Between 30mm and 36mm (from chin to top of hair)
• Color: Must be in color with a bright background
• Quality: Clear, high resolution, and free from shadows or reflections
• Expression: Neutral facial expression with eyes open and mouth closed
• Head Position: Facing forward directly at the camera
