Overview

A re-entry permit allows you to leave Denmark and return while your residence permit application is being processed. This permit is necessary if:

• You do not yet have a residence card and need to travel.
• Your residence permit extension is pending.
• You have applied for a new residence card and need to travel before receiving it.

The re-entry permit is issued as a visa sticker placed inside your passport.

Who Needs a Re-Entry Permit?

You must apply for a re-entry permit if:

• You have applied for a residence permit and wish to travel before receiving approval.
• You have applied for an extension but do not yet have a valid residence card.
• You have applied for a new residence card and need to travel before receiving it.
• You do not have a valid entry visa but need to return to Denmark.

You do not need a re-entry permit if:

• You already have a valid residence card.
• You have a valid entry visa for Denmark at the time of travel.

Your application must be submitted to one of the following authorities, depending on your residence permit type:

SIRI – Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration

Apply here if your residence permit is based on:

• Work (including Start-up Denmark)
• Study (including PhD and Danish authorisation)
• Au pair, internship, volunteer, or Working Holiday
• Greencard Scheme
• EU Regulations (including permanent residence under EU rules)
• Accompanying family members

Apply here if your residence permit is based on:

• Asylum
• Family reunification
• Religious work
• Permanent residence permit
