Documents Required

General Documents Required for All Student Visas

Regardless of the study programme, the following documents must be submitted:

• Proof of fee payment (attach receipt)
• Copy of all passport pages (including front and back cover and all empty pages)
• Certified translations (if documents are not in English, German, Norwegian, Swedish, or Danish)

If you are under 18, you must also submit:

• Parental consent declaration (signed by both parents)
• Copy of birth certificate
• Copy of parents’ passport data pages
• Declaration from the school ensuring proper study and living conditions in Denmark (signed and stamped by the school)

Additional documents are required for specific student visa types as outlined below.

Types of Student Visas & Additional Requirements

Basic and Youth Study Programme

For students enrolled in a basic or youth study programme in Denmark.

Additional documents required:

• Proof of financial means (to support yourself during your stay)
• High school enrolment documentation (if applicable):
  • Proof that you have started a high school programme in your home country and will complete it in Denmark
  • OR proof that you will continue your high school programme in your home country after your stay (if not arranged by an exchange organisation)

Higher Education

For students enrolling in a higher education programme in Denmark.

Additional documents required:

• Proof of financial means
• Proof of enrolment at an educational institution in your home country (if you are a guest or exchange student)

PhD Studies

For students enrolled in a PhD programme at a Danish institution.

Additional documents required:

• Proof of PhD enrolment
• If salaried: Employment contract or job offer
• If unsalaried: Proof of financial means

Folk High School Programme

For students enrolling in a non-formal adult education programme in Denmark.

Additional documents required:

• If accommodation is not covered by the institution, submit proof of financial means

Work Permit for an Internship

For students in Denmark undertaking a full-time internship as part of their educational programme.

Additional documents required:

• Internship agreement (stating duration and job description)

Job Seeking After Completed Education

For students who have completed their education in Denmark and wish to apply for a residence permit to seek employment.

Additional documents required:

• Proof of completed education (Danish professional bachelor’s, bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD degree)

Work Permit During Job Seeking Period

For graduates with a job-seeking permit who wish to apply for an unrestricted work permit.

Additional documents required:

• Proof of completed education (Danish professional bachelor’s, bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD degree)

Educational Attachment

For students enrolled in a programme that can lead to a job on the Positive List and are at risk of losing or have previously lost their residence basis in Denmark.

Additional documents required:

• Proof of admission to an educational programme leading to employment under the Positive List for Skilled Work or Higher Education

Biometric Data Requirement

• Applicants must appear in person at a Danish diplomatic mission or SIRI office for biometric recording (fingerprints & digital photo).
• If applying via a representation agreement country, applicants must submit two passport photos and complete biometric recording upon arrival in Denmark.

• Ensure all required documents are included to avoid processing delays.
• Fees are non-refundable, even if the application is rejected.
• Some student visa types allow limited work rights; check your specific permit conditions.

Photo Specification

• Size: 35mm x 45mm
• Head Length: Between 30mm and 36mm (from chin to top of hair)
• Color: Must be in color with a bright background
• Quality: Clear, high resolution, and free from shadows or reflections
• Expression: Neutral facial expression with eyes open and mouth closed
• Head Position: Facing forward directly at the camera
