Documents Required

General Documents Required for All Au Pair Applications

The following documents must be submitted:

• Proof of fee payment (attach receipt)
• Copy of all passport pages (including front and back cover and all empty pages)
• Copy of educational documents
• Copy of birth certificate
• Certified translations (if documents are not in English, German, Norwegian, Swedish, or Danish)

Additional Requirements for Applicants Under 18

If the au pair is under 18, the following documents must also be provided:

• Parental consent declaration (signed by both parents)
• Copy of parents’ passport data pages

Host Family Responsibilities

The Danish host family must:

1. Ensure CPR Registration
   • The au pair must be registered with Denmark’s Central Office of Civil Registration (CPR) within 5 days of arrival.
   • The host family must deregister the au pair when they leave Denmark.
2. Provide Insurance Coverage
   • The host family must take out the following insurances:
     • Work-related injury insurance
     • Leisure time and accident insurance
     • Return travel insurance (covering costs in case of serious illness or death)
3. Deposit Payment for Danish Language Lessons
   • The host family must pay a one-time deposit to cover the au pair’s Danish language courses before the residence permit is granted.

Au Pair Contract Terms & Conditions

• Allowance: The au pair must receive a minimum monthly allowance, deposited into a Danish bank account.
• Working Hours:
  • Between 3 to 5 hours per day, maximum 30 hours per week.
  • Minimum one and a half days off per week.
  • Time off on Danish public holidays.
• Household Duties:
  • General domestic chores, childcare, cooking, cleaning, shopping, and laundry.
• Accommodation & Meals: The au pair must have a separate bedroom and be provided meals by the host family.

Au Pair Permit Validity & Renewal

• The maximum duration of an au pair residence permit is 24 months.
• The permit cannot be extended beyond 24 months, even with a new host family.

Changing Host Families

• If an au pair wishes to change host families, they must apply for a new residence permit and provide:
  • A new au pair contract with the new host family.

Work Restrictions for Au Pairs

An au pair cannot:

• Work more than 5 hours per day or 30 hours per week.
• Take on any paid work outside the host family.
• Carry out tasks beyond household chores.

If an au pair works illegally, they may face deportation, and the host family may be fined or banned from hiring au pairs for up to 10 years.

• Head Length: Between 30mm and 36mm (from chin to top of hair)
• Color: Must be in color with a bright background
• Quality: Clear, high resolution, and free from shadows or reflections
• Expression: Neutral facial expression with eyes open and mouth closed
• Head Position: Facing forward directly at the camera
